Location & Opening Hours

Our equipment rental service is open daily from 8 am to 8 pm during the spring season from March 6 to May 2, 2026.
The rental desk is located in the main building of Kilpisjärven Retkeilykeskus at Käsivarrentie 14663, 99490 Kilpisjärvi.

Rental Equipment

• Backcountry Skis

All of our backcountry skis are equipped with waxless bases and steel edges. Ski lengths range from 170 to 215 cm, with brands including Madshus, Fischer, and Rossignol. Bindings are either Salomon XA or Rottefella NNN BC.
A backcountry ski set always includes skis, boots, and poles. Full-length skins can be rented separately for backcountry skis.

• Pulk Sleds

For ski touring, we offer two models of pulk sleds: Fjellpulken Expedition X-Plorer 154 cm and the reliable Finnish Savotta Paljakka

• OAC Skin-Based Skis / Sliding Snowshoes

OAC skin-based skis—closer to skis than snowshoes—are well suited for longer day trips in snowy fell terrain, especially in birch forests. They are not ideal on icy fell slopes. You can use your own winter boots with OAC skis. Poles are included in the rental price.

• Snowshoes

Snowshoeing is an easy and safe way to move in winter fell terrain, even for beginners. Our reception staff will gladly suggest suitable routes, and for example when heading to Saana, snowshoes are often necessary. You can use your own winter boots, and poles are included in the rental price.

• Child Carriers

We have two child carrier backpacks available. Their weight limits are 18–22 kg.
