Because adventures are meant to be shared!

Pet-friendly accommodation

Kilpisjärvi is a dream destination for four-legged adventurers as well. The fells, wide-open landscapes, and beautiful outdoor trails offer shared experiences for dogs and their owners – starting right at your accommodation’s doorstep. Here, your pet is truly welcome as part of the journey: you can stay comfortably, dine together, and head out on adventures in the landscapes of three countries. On holiday, there’s no need to leave a family member behind.

Pet-friendly accommodation

We also offer pet-friendly accommodation, and our lakeside camping cabins are perfect for guests traveling with their pets. We charge a €20 pet fee per stay, and as a welcome gift your four-legged companion will receive a tail-wagging treat bag. When staying at the campsite, pets are free of charge. Pets are also welcome inside Restaurant Saana and on the terrace.

Kilpisjärvi with dogs

Kilpisjärvi is a paradise for dog owners. Here, you don’t need to search for dog-friendly routes – hiking trails, lakeshores, and wide-open landscapes begin right outside your door. Most outings can be enjoyed in peace, without crowds, and there is plenty of space to roam. Clean waters offer refreshing drinking spots and swimming opportunities in summer, while in winter the snowy fells invite you to shared adventures. Please remember to keep your pet on a leash so that both nature and other visitors can enjoy the fells safely.

Tips:

  • Bring drinking water for your dog when heading to Saana. There are a few ponds and streams in the area, but not directly along the trail.
  • If your pet prefers peace and quiet, even the most popular destinations have calm moments. By choosing a slightly different time than most visitors, you can enjoy the fells in tranquility – hike Saana in the soft light of the summer night or head to Lake Tsahkaljärvi early in the morning to watch the sunrise. Kilpisjärvi is often at its best then.
  • The peak insect season, with mosquitoes and black flies, is from July to mid-August. In early summer and autumn, insects are far less troublesome. At Kilpisjärvi Shop next to our reception, you can also find natural insect repellents that are safe for use with pets.
  • We warmly recommend obtaining a pet passport before your trip to Kilpisjärvi – it allows you to enjoy wonderful day trips to Norway as well.
