Getting to Kilpisjärvi
Kilpisjärven Retkeilykeskus is located right at the foot of Saana Fell, at the northern end of the village of Kilpisjärvi. The Norwegian border is approximately 6 km from the center. You can reach us by car or by bus.
By Car
Kilpisjärvi is reached via the E8 (Käsivarrentie). Parking is free for our guests.

Tromsø – Kilpisjärvi approx. 170 km
Skibotn – Kilpisjärvi approx. 50 km
By Bus
There is a daily bus connection to Kilpisjärvi, and the bus stops directly in our courtyard. Up-to-date schedules can be found on Matkahuolto’s website.
By Air
The nearest airports are:
Tromsø (TOS) – good international connections
Kittilä (KTT) – good domestic and seasonal international connections
Rovaniemi (RVN) – year-round service
From the airports, you can continue to Kilpisjärvi by bus or rental car. There is no year-round bus connection from Tromsø to Kilpisjärvi: Eskelinen Lapin Linjat operates the route from summer until the autumn foliage season, and The Arctic Route runs from December to the end of March.
Arriving at Our Services
- Reception is located in the main building – the long red building closest to the road.
- Restaurant Saana is located in the same main building, next to the reception.
- Camping cabins are situated by Lake Kilpisjärvi, the camping area lies on the slope of Saana Fell, and the rooms are in a separate accommodation building. Check-in for all accommodation options takes place at the reception. If you arrive after reception hours, please contact us in advance regarding late arrival.
- Equipment Rental operates in connection with the main building.
The area is compact, and all services are within easy walking distance of each other.
